Trends in Kitchen Remodeling

Kitchen remodeling is one of the best home improvement investments you can make. However studies show that the best return on your investment is in certain home kitchen remodeling features, rather than a hearty remodel of every feature in the kitchen. If you are remodeling for your own comfort and you intend to stay in your home, then you are probably more concerned about getting the features that you desire. However, if you are remodeling kitchens for resale value, you should consider what sells and what is unimportant to buyers.

So just what will people pay for and what do they not care about in home kitchen remodeling? The latest trends in kitchen remodeling are big, luxurious spaces with built-in islands. All wood, traditional style cabinets are hot right now with natural stone or granite countertops. Consider refinishing existing kitchen cabinets rather than buying new ones to save a large dollar amount on your remodeling budget. Tile counters and laminates are not popular right now.

Stone and tile are popular surfaces for floors, and so is natural looking wood flooring. Look for easy care surfaces that don’t require polishing or special treatments. Use colors and textures that are layered. Layering means choose colors in like hues and textures that coordinate rather than trying to match things exactly. Create a look that is tonal but not all one color. Earth tones like browns and greens, and soft, muted colors are among the most popular choices.

When it comes to updating appliances, commercial-looking stainless steel appliances are really popular at the moment. If you are building new cabinets from scratch, look out for the European style of incorporating appliances in to the cabinetry by matching doors of built-in appliances like dishwashers and refrigerators.

The latest kitchen remodeling trends also include installing a built-in microwave over the stove, and more luxurious kitchens boast more than one oven. If you are buying a new microwave oven compare features on models that use convection baking for roasting and browning and built-in sensors that automatically detect when food is cooked and shut the power off. When you are buying a stove look for double ovens, warming plates and warming drawers, and check out the amazing selection of free-standing gas ranges in brushed stainless steel, black, and bright colors like red and orange that add sizzle to your color scheme. Also becoming popular on high end stoves are faucets on the back of the stove. This allows you to fill a pot with water for cooking right there at the stove without having to carry the pot over to the sink.

Kitchens are not only used for cooking these days. They are popular places for the family computer. When considering your kitchen remodeling think about whether you have space to incorporate a wide screen TV monitor, a family computer or a portable DVD for watching movies while you cook.
