Home Remodeling Plans, How To Remodel

Is One Season Better...?

On Your Mark...Get set...

As far as our personal research has taken us, we have found out to our dismay, that there have been far too few articles written about the proper timing, or season in which to start your home remodeling plans. This can easily be understood if we take a bit of time to thoroughly think through what remodeling plans you have.

Reality First

First and foremost, we must determine the scope of our project. Is this going to be a rather simple remodeling, i.e. countertop replacement that takes about 2 days, or will the kitchen resemble a war zone for weeks on end because of a major home kitchen remodel?

Pin Point Time Frame

Some contractors can be a bit elusive when questioned on the time it will take to complete that bathroom remodel, basement remodel, or other home remodel project. Do not back down! This is no time to be shy. Press the contractor into a specific time frame, and make sure they stick to it. It is highly advisable to get a copy of the job itinerary, and be sure the remodeling company remains on track. You would be well advised to include completion times in the contract, and possible penalties to your beloved contractor if these parameters are not met. Create a much better working environment all around by matter-of-factly reaching a reasonable and a doable time frame and making sure it is clear up front.

GO!!!!

Contractor popularity will play a vital role in determining the time and season when your project will get out of the planning stage, and into the materialization process. It is best to plan at least 1 year ahead to get your preferred starting date. This of course is not practical in real life, I figured we would throw it in for a quick laugh. Realistically you should contact your handyman or remodeling contractor as soon as you start to think about your home remodeling project. This should give them ample time to schedule and make the needed arrangements in order to have a timely starting date. Spring can be the perfect time of year to start that home remodeling project that you have been planning since the inception of time itself. The fact that there are no holidays for at least 6 months can in itself produce a sense of a limitless time frame and a no worry/hurry attitude. Be advised though that the clock ticks a lot faster as we age and become wiser. It will serve you well to make the necessary arrangements during the winter months, in order to get a starting date early in the spring.

Immediately following Christmas and the New Year seems to be a slow time on most contractors' calendars. Interior work is very welcome during this generally cold period, and may even result in a lower cost to you.

Enjoy!

When your home is in shambles, and you believe you are wits end...don't worry, be happy, all home remodeling plans come to an end. smile The time is soon coming when you will look back on this entire project and smile, knowing well and good, that it wasn't that bad after all.
