Kitchen Design and Functionality

There is so much to say about kitchen design and functionality in your home kitchen remodeling project.  This is an area where planning is absolutely essential to ensure the best use of your space.  Since the kitchen is frequently the most inviting and least threatening area of your home you may want to seek out ways to expand your kitchen area.

One good example is to look at a formal dining room adjacent to your kitchen.  Many believe that the formal dining concept is obsolete and frequently formal dining rooms are rarely used.  As part of your home kitchen remodel you may want to open the wall between the kitchen and the formal dining room, combining these two rooms and creating a more open feel with an island cabinet.  Utilizing the same flooring in both rooms also increases the sense of openness and improves the flow.  Wide open space is far more hospitable than closed up areas and increase the perception of size.

If you want to maintain some separation but increase the openness consider using a ½ wall between the kitchen and dining rooms.  This will open the space while keeping some division between the areas.  This idea might also allow adding some additional cabinets or a breakfast bar on the kitchen side of the wall.
